Top 3 Free Things to do on the Gold Coast

Looking for free things to do on the Gold Coast?

Obviously the beach is the first thing that comes to mind, but if you’re looking for a break from our beautiful white sands and crumbling salty waves, then we’ve come up with some alternatives. Here’s a list of our Top 3 free best things to do outdoors on the Gold Coast suitable for everyone.

1. Hinze Dam

Significant upgrades were made to the Hinze Dam in 2011. Some may prefer the way it was and others like it’s new look. It all depends on what you’re into. In it’s new state, the Hinze Dam entry features a new educational Interpretive Centre and coffee shop, as well as viewing platforms and a function centre. The Hinze Dam precinct includes parks, BBQ areas, bike and horse trails, walking trails and of course the ability to walk across the Dam wall. Hours can be spent here exploring. It’s just 15 minutes from exit 90 at Nerang or 30 minutes from Surfers Paradise.

2. Natural Bridge/Arch

Natural-Arch-Bridge

Natural Bridge (also referred to as Natural Arch) is located in the Numinbah Valley. You can enjoy some spectacular walks, rainforest and rock formations. After sunset you can experience the amazing sight of glow worms doing what they do best. The walks are pleasant and suitable for most. We don’t want to spoil too much of this natural wonder. Approximately 30 minutes from Nerang or 45 minutes from Surfers Paradise.

3. Betty Diamond Sporting Complex

Who is Betty Diamond? Don’t worry, that’s irrelevant. One of the best free things to do on the Gold Coast is to head down to this park (it’s not exactly a sporting complex), which is located at the northern end of the Coolangatta Airport runway. This park has a well set out skate bowl, plenty of grass to kick the footy, a dog park and a small dirt remote control car/bmx track. BUT. What makes this park unique is that you can stand under the planes as they come in to land. It’s such an awesome sight & sound; and as close as you’ll get to an airborne plane.
